The sacramental life of the Church is crucial to our faith as Catholic Christians. Through the sacraments we experience God’s saving grace.
“The purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify us, to build up the Body of Christ and, finally, to give worship to God. Because they are signs they also instruct. They not only presuppose faith, but by words and objects they also nourish, strengthen, and express it. That is why they are called ‘sacraments of faith.’”
– Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1154
Can Catholics who are separated or divorced receive the sacraments?
Catholics who are separated or divorced and who have not remarried outside the Church are in good standing with the Church and can receive all of the sacraments, including the Eucharist! We encourage all in this situation to serve in all aspects of Parish life, including liturgical ministries. Catholics in this situation are not excommunicated!
If you have any questions about whether you are allowed to received the sacraments, please contact us, call our office, or ask a priest at any time.
