Hilltop Mission Retreat

  Join us for our second annual Hilltop Mission Retreat! The goal of this retreat is to serve our brothers and sisters on the west side of Columbus in Hilltop, while giving our teens exposure to the struggles and circumstances of individuals in our very own city. Teens will walk away from this retreat with service experience and empowered to share the love of Christ with the poor and vulnerable. The retreat is over night and we will be sleeping in the St. Aloysius school (now called EABG), which is on the corner of Broad St. and Midland Ave. The retreat will include times of spiritual receptivity and sacramental nourishment for the high schoolers as well as times of service and giving to others. Parents are highly encouraged to join us for the Saturday times of outreach. Parents will need to have PGC and a background check on file with the diocese to join.
  
  We are partnering with a Catholic ministry called Urban Encounter Ministries. UEM is located in Hilltop and its mission is to return neighborhoods back to the heart of Jesus through proclamation, demonstration, and discipleship. UEM has a house of 5 missionary men who have devoted themselves to serving their neighbors in Hilltop. These missionaries will be giving some of the content for the retreat as well as leading our group on Saturday in distributing "survival backpacks" to people we encounter on the street. On Saturday evening we will be hosting a pizza, games, and praise night for the kids of Run the Race.
  
  When: December 1st - 3rd 2023
  Who: Any high schooler who is interested. Christ the King and St. Catharine will be joining us.
  Cost: $30 per person
  Where: St. Aloysius school and parish (they will be sleeping on the floor and there will be bathrooms but no showers)
  Why: Service is an indispensable part of Christian maturity. It forms our heart to look more like Christ's.

  The cost for this retreat is $75. You can make checks payable to St. Matthew Church with the memo “Hilltop Mission Retreat Payment.” OR you can pay online through online giving under the Family Life Office button. Be sure to label the gift as "Hilltop Mission Retreat Payment for CHILD'S NAME."
  
  We are looking for dads who are PGC certified to be on the security team for the weekend and commit to 2.5 hour time slots through the night to stay awake and monitor the building. If you sign up for a time slot, the cost of the retreat for your child will be waived. We do not anticipate any legitimate danger, but in an abundance of caution for the location that we will be in, we would like to have someone awake at all hours of the night.
