We are excited to welcome the vocal group Ensemble Una Voce to lead us in Tenebrae. "Tenebrae" is a Latin word meaning "shadows" or "darkness." The liturgy follows the structure of evening prayer, with psalms, reflections, and chants. After each section, one candle is extinguished, until the last candle, the Christ Candle, is the only one remaining. Once that candle is extinguished, there's a sudden, loud noise, or "strepitus," to remind us of the earthquake and tearing of the veil when Jesus died. Then, the Christ candle returns, bringing light back to the darkness. We hope you'll join us on Wednesday to pray this amazing liturgy with us.
